ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (STAAF)



Student Teachers' Annite Alumni Forum (STAAF) is a link between the former students and the institution.

The Objectives of STAAF are :



1. To provide a common platform for professional interest.

2. To promote opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.

3. To extend need based service to the country

4. To create linkage with service and professional organization in the field of education.

All the students are required to be members of STAFF.

We take pride in meeting our old students once a year during our Annual General Body Meeting.

The STAAF (Student Teachers' Annite Alumni Forum) was constituted in year 2001.

The by-laws of STAAF are as follows:



1. The general body of the Association shall consist of all former students of St. Ann's College of Education including the present teaching staff of the college.

2. The tenure of the committee members is two years.

3. If any elected member in case of leaving the executive committee due to unforeseen circumstances, the committee will nominate a substitute member whose terms will be in co-terminus with the existing committee.

4. The Executive committee will meet once in a year.

5. The general body will meet once in a year.

6. The Annual membership fee is Rs. 100/- and Life membership fee is Rs. 1000/-.

A PTA forum was organized as a proactive measure for the problems faced by parents and students.


Co-Curricular Activities

The prime objective of including the co-curricular activities in the students' programme is to bring out their latent talents. Such activities are not only for this purpose but also to bring an awareness of how to conduct these activities after they would become full-fledged teachers in schools.

Being an autonomous college, the institution has academic freedom to design its own syllabus. Evaluation


Evaluation is a continuous process in an autonomous institution. St. Ann's College of Education has reframed the scheme of examinations from 2005 onwards.

This college follows semester system of evaluation for B.Ed. course. The scheme of evaluation includes 2 periodical exams under internal (CEE) and 2 SEE (Semester End Examinations). This is the scheme for theory examinations for a total of 70 marks per paper and the grand total is 70 x 7 = 490 marks.

Continuous evaluation is conducted also for practical assignments. They are divided as:

General Rules of Evaluation:-



1. A Trainee shall put in not less than 85% of attendance in theory and 75% in practicals of the B.Ed. Programme to be eligible to appear and write the examination. 75% attendance during practice teaching is mandatory.

2. If a candidate has less than 65% of attendance in theory / practicals, they will not be permitted to even appear for the examination unless the Principal condones the deficiency.

3. A candidate who does not appear and qualify herself in periodicals is not allowed to write the semester end examination.

4. A candidate is eligible to appear for semester end examination only after appearing and qualifying in all practical activities.

5. Students will not be issued hall ticket until they clear payment of tuition fee, examination fee, and no due certified by the office.

6. Candidates who seek for revaluation of answer scripts should pay the due amount and apply within 15 days from the day of announcement of the result

Publications


Publications of St. Ann's College of Education:-



'Annite' the college magazine was revived after a span of 15 years. Every year college magazine is published giving details of the various curricular & co-curricular activities for the respective academic year.

Similarly 'Pedagogy & Praxis'a research journal was first published in 2007. The second volume was published the following year 2008. This research journal gives a platform for the academicians to exhibit their research talents in the field of Education.


Note to the Authors



1.Our journal Pedagogy & Praxis invites articles from academicians.

2.The article should be accompanied by a declaration ststing that the article has not been sent for publications in any other journal or periodicals and is an original peice of work.

3.Those articles which contribute to qualitative teacher education will be accepted for publication in the journal.

4.The articles submitted should be both in hard and soft copy.

5.Two copies of the journal will be sent to the authors, whose articles have been published in the journal.

6.The last date for submission of articles is 30th November 2009.

  • Resource Center :-
  • This resource centre is situated at St.Ann’s College of Education, S.D.Road, Secunderabad. All the research work done in any new areas are recorded and stored in the form of CD’s recorded.
    This centre has evidences of some of the best outcomes of students projects, lesson plans, computer related CD’s and portfolio records.
    All innovative practices of staff are also preserved in this resource centre. This is accessed by both staff and students.



  • Consultancy :-
  • Principal and Senior staff members are engaged in consultancy services. Consultancy services. Consultancy varies from intellectual inputs, outsourcing of educational innovations, extending technology equipments, conducting workshops/ seminars/ orientation programmes, project designing, writing modules, members of different executive boards and extension of services to SCERT/ MANA TV/ NOS and co-operating organizations.



  • Research Projects :-   
  • All staff are engaged in research projects. The research projects are taken at source focuses on improving teaching methods, curriculum and other areas.
    Staff take up minor research projects sponsored by UGC. Proposals are submitted to UGC. Proposals are submitted to UGC, AP for grants.

    The topics under research are

    1. Reshaping ESL (English as a Second language) students perceptions of writing

    2. Creative arts into syllabi of school and college curriculum for promoting all round development.




Innovative Lessons

 



There is a great challenge faced by schools and colleges due to explosion in the field of knowledge. Traditional methods have been found not so useful in today’s classrooms. Viewing these changes in Instructional design, Bloom’s Taxonomy, we always take a step forward to research new methods of teaching. All innovative strategies are experimented at college level, extended to schools and then standardized to be preserved as evidences in the Resource centre.

Methods which were experimented are:

1. Concept Attainment model of teaching in Mathematics and Sciences.

2. Inquiry Based Teaching in Social Studies

3. Programmed Instruction in Maths & Sciences

4. Game method for Recreation in Maths.

5. Script Writing in Maths/ Sciences/ Telugu

6. Constructivism in Maths/ Sciences

7. Reciprocal teaching strategies.
